Making Sure Your Gifts Have Meaning
On big occasions where gift giving is imperative (birthdays, anniversaries, religious holidays), it's easy to fall back on a safety net and simply buy the one object that will be flashy enough to scream 'You're important to me!'. But when you think about it, isn't that just far too easy? Money is money, and it is almost convenient to say that someone is special and worthy because of the dollar amount that's been spent.
Some people may be easy to impress this way, but what good is a gift unless it holds some level of personal or sentimental value? Without some sort of thoughtful touch, the gift really becomes nothing more than an object. In the end, if you want to gift that matter, dig deeper, and add a special touch that will say more than the price tag ever will.
One of the biggest markets to offer expensive, flashy goods is technology. It seems a shiny new item is always garnering a cult following for no other reason than its 'hot' and extravagant status. There's no doubt that the man in your life is not eyeing a men's sport watch. He's looking at that new touchscreen phone, or that audio visual equipment with lust.
You might think to personalize a high-tech gift in some way. Perhaps along with that new Blu-Ray disc player, you can also add a small collection of that person's favorite movies. Or, in the case of something like a digital book reader, you can also have it pre-loaded with some of the hottest new best sellers in your recipient's favorite genre.
Another up and coming market is targeted toward new mothers, who want to shower their children with only top of the line items. Plastic baby bath tubs and mobiles, as practical as they are, just don't hold a shine among other treasures like cashmere baby blankets or designer clothes.
Let's say you've bought a luxury crib for your friend. What more could she ask for her child? Well, why not a pair of cashmere booties that are monogrammed? Or perhaps you've bought an ultra expensive pram. That's wonderful for the baby, but maybe you could also hint that you're thinking of the mother. Why not buy her a first edition copy of her favorite novel so she can read while relaxing in the park while on a stroll with the pram?
They say sometimes that more is more. In the case of buying dazzling and extravagant gifts though, the 'more' is not about the price tag. You've already covered that base in the original receipt. Make yourself someone the recipient will always appreciate by showing your conscientious and thoughtful side.
